Tiger Docks Designs & Installs New Kayak Center for Village West Marina

Wright City, MO – (May 6, 2019) Tiger Docks recently completed construction on a new Kayak center, called The Fourteen Mile Kayak, at Village West Marina and Resort, in Stockton, CA. Located in the heart of the Northern California Delta, along the fourteen mile slough, are 680 covered boat slips with 20 open slips that can accommodate boats from 20’ to 80’ in length. In an effort to understand the marinas vision, Jason Howarth, Tiger Docks VP of Commercial Sales & Project Development, wanted to know  what Harbormaster, Tim Fontaine’s ultimate goal was by adding the new kayak center, given the extensive amenities the marina currently has. Tim proudly stated “Village West Marina and Resort understands the importance of introducing new boaters to the recreational boating industry. By building a kayak and paddleboard rental center, we will be able to accomplish this. With beautiful sunsets, great fishing and the capability for recreation and leisure, the California Delta is the perfect environment for introducing new boaters of all ages to the industry.” The new kayak storage dock consists of 736 total square footage with 480 square feet enclosed, and 256 square feet covered. This will give the marina room to secure approximately 34 kayaks and paddle boards, paddles, and lifejackets, all behind a 6’steel roll-up security door. It also includes skylight roof panels to allow for natural lighting. The concrete decking and composite band board provides a maintenance free exterior for the marina staff. The enclosed building will allow both kayaks and paddled boards to be stored inside overnight and be used as a rental facility during the day. The new addition includes both a kayak launch platform, as well as a 16’ water level paddle board launch.

Trying to retrofit the new kayak storage dock to the existing docks in the space the marina allowed, as well as matching up the freeboard height, was the biggest challenge on the project. Tiger Docks design team went to work creating a facility that not only fit perfectly in the allotted space, but also fulfilled the marinas exact needs for accommodating their clientele. Nick Davis, COO of Tiger Docks remarked “The advantage to working with Tiger Docks is when our standard dock frames won’t fit, we have the ability to make custom frames that will fit.” Davis went on to say, “Tiger Docks can design a custom solution for any marina wanting to expand or upgrade.”

With the addition of the new enclosed kayak center, Village West Marina and Resort will be able to employ more workers from seasonal to full time. There are multiple local high schools and colleges in the area to draw from. Their facility will continue to offer a great work opportunity and experience for these students and others in the community.

When asked about his experience working with Tiger Docks, Fontaine stated “Tiger Docks was really easy to work with. From design work, to delivery and install, Tiger Docks made the process seamless.” He went on to say, “The Tiger Docks staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and easy to work with, which made for a great experience.”

The 45 year old, award winning resort, provides recreational boaters with more amenities than any other Delta marina. Tim said “Village West Marina and Resort is proud to continue to offer this new service to the community. Tiger Docks Teams up With Loyal Order of The Squirrels to Build a Dock for TREE House of Greater St Louis

O’FALLON, MO (Januaruy 19, 2018) – Tiger Docks is proud to announce the completion of a project they helped construct and complete for a local nonprofit organization. TREE House of Greater St Louis, formerly known as Therapeutic Horsemanship, has been working for 43 years providing integrated therapy to individuals with disabilities throughout the Greater St. Louis community. Specializing in equine-assisted therapy, TREE House is located on 88 acres in Wentzville, MO; boasting beautiful trails, horse stables, pastures, and lakes.

The TREE House mission is simple. They strive to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities. The organization’s Executive Director, Nate Harms, explains, “We focus on all abilities of individuals we serve, providing a broad range of services for them and their families, all in one environment.” It is an environment that continues to be developed and improved upon through the help of volunteers, grants, and local organizations willing to commit to supporting their goals. Last year, TREE House hoped to add a dock to their facility to enhance the outdoor experience through continuing to develop an area that was not being fully utilized. Ready to see TREE House reach their goal of a new dock, Tiger Docks and the Loyal Order of the Squirrels teamed up to build and install an ADA Fishing dock.

The Loyal Order of the Squirrels raised the funds necessary to provide the raw materials to build the dock. Josh Grasser, a member of The Loyal Order of the Squirrels, needed help to see the project come to life. He reached out to Nick Davis, President of Tiger Docks, for assistance in the design, building, and installation of the dock. Davis explains, “When Grasser brought this opportunity to me, I immediately wanted to get involved. I was not previously aware of TREE House of Greater St. Louis, but felt strongly about partnering with such a great organization, doing so much good for the community.” Tiger Docks joined the project to donate the labor. In total, 190 hours were donated to the project by Tiger Docks, which included the fabrication and installation of the dock.

A non-profit organization, The Loyal Order of the Squirrels was founded in 1984. They financially and physically assist children, handicapped, and elderly individuals in the area. Tiger Docks and Grasser have worked on multiple projects together in the past. When this opportunity arose, there was no doubt that together, they could make it happen.

The dock consists of a 5’ x 36’ ADA handrail bridge leading to a 16’ x 12’ ADA fishing dock with two, five foot custom benches. The bridge, dock, and benches feature Trex® composite decking, which are top of the line decking materials. In regards to choosing Trex® decking, Davis shares, “While everyone involved was watching costs, we did not want to compromise quality for this project; so, we chose the best product out there.”

Harms shared in great detail of the excitement surrounding the new dock. When asked what he is most proud with the completion of this project, he offered, “Just having it in the water at this point. The dock is awesome in the design and safe accessibility; it’s opening doors for people we’re serving.” He went on to explain to Davis that “having experts like you guys is key for the safety of those we serve.”

Tiger Docks is proud to be a part of such great projects, and amazing opportunities to serve their community. While discussing future possibilities for continued development, Harms asked Davis if he would be interested in helping with a possible project, to which Davis responded, “Absolutely.” TREE House plans to schedule a grand opening for the dock this upcoming spring. Purina's Research Center Enlists Help from Tiger Docks

GRAY SUMMIT, MO (June 2015) – Tiger Docks has completed a two-part project at the Purina Animal Nutrition Center that will assist the research facility in evaluating their feed products for various fish species.

Bill Miller, PhD, senior director of companion animal research at Purina Animal Nutrition, LLC, identified the need to suspend fish cages out toward the middle of the center’s lake. Warren Dierker, construction supervisor at the Land O’Lakes-owned facility, helped Miller meet that need. Dierker remembered visiting with Tiger Docks at a St. Louis Boat Show and contacted them about drafting a master plan to address Miller’s research criteria.

Tiger Docks custom designed an 80-foot combination floating platform dock, floating walkway and hand-railed bridge, which Purina asked them to construct in two stages. The initial project was completed last fall and was fully functional at a length of 60 feet. The recently-added second phase extended the structure another 20 feet into the water, providing access to a larger area as well as to deeper water. In addition to the flexibility built into the project design, Tiger Docks created a drawbridge section for inclusion near the middle of the expanse.

“We keep the drawbridge up to prevent raccoons and other critters from getting to the feeding cages,” Miller explained. “We wanted to make it more difficult for unwanted wildlife to have fish for dinner. Also, the locked drawbridge helps keep visitors to the center from inadvertently disturbing the research project.”

“Purina’s drawbridge is the first we’ve done on a floating walkway,” said Marv Davis, Tiger Docks CFO and VP of Commercial & Military Sales. “We were confident we could meet the research farm’s challenge of allowing only research personnel out to the fish feeding area and look forward to helping them with further projects in the years ahead.”

“Working with Tiger Docks went very smoothly,” stated Dierker, who served as the project manager. “Everyone did exactly what they said they were going to do, when they said they were going to do it, and you can’t ask for anything more than that. We asked them to produce the pieces on a short schedule and they met our timeframe.”

In Gray Summit, Missouri, the Purina Animal Nutrition Center is a 1,200-acre working farm where more than 3,000 animals are fed every day. Animal nutritionists and veterinarians live and work with the animals, “Because real life tells us more than we could ever learn in a lab.” The Purina Animal Nutrition Center is separate and across the street from Purina Farms, where families go for animal shows and interactive, educational experiences.

Chesterfield’s Newest Park Features Tiger Docks

CHESTERFIELD, MO (May 18, 2015) – Hundreds of area residents attended the recent grand opening of River’s Edge Park, including members of the Tiger Docks team, who saw their products in use by families of all ages and interests. Fishing enthusiasts, paddleboarders, nature-lovers, kayakers, and more soaked in the warm sun and enjoyed mild temperatures as they tested the waters in the City of Chesterfield’s new River’s Edge 188-acre passive park with a 38.5-acre lake. The floating dock, ramp and benches at the water’s edge were all manufactured and installed by Tiger Docks.

“We are doing more and more of these ADA community docks,” said Nick Davis, Tiger Docks president. “The 5-foot wide, 40-foot long handrailed aluminum bridge at River’s Edge provides a gangway ample enough for wheelchairs, strollers, and families holding little ones’ hands. The 12’x16’ floating platform offers room for any number of water activities and is finished with Trex ‘Rope Swing’ composite decking, one of our most popular decking products.”

“Our engineering staff was impressed with the quality construction in Tiger Docks’ galvanized steel framing and encapsulated foam floatation,” said Tom McCarthy, director of Parks, Recreation & Arts for the City of Chesterfield. “They also liked the combination of safety and openness offered by the dock edge kick plate that runs around the entire perimeter of the dock. Personally, I think the two composite lumber benches are a really nice touch – they offer a spot for water enthusiasts to get their gear on and a peaceful place for rest and reflection when residents just want to enjoy the scenery and the fresh air. I can personally say that those benches are the perfect place for the best view in Chesterfield!”

Up the ramp from the dock is a 26x26 square foot pavilion built by the project’s general contractor, Schneider Construction Services of O’Fallon. Schneider also erected the concrete slab that served as the bulkhead for the new bridge and dock, according to Brad Schneider, construction manager on the project.

Chesterfield’s newest and largest park, River’s Edge is located on the north side of the levee near Taubman Prestige Outlets at the western end of the parking lot. In addition to the opportunity for water activities, the park features a 2+-mile crushed limestone walking trail with breathtaking scenery and wonderful wildlife. Tiger Docks Provides Dock Installation for Local Hero

O’FALLON, MO (May 13. 2015) – Tiger Docks crew members recently volunteered a Saturday to install a floating wood dock and ramp for Marine Captain Matt Cooper of Wentzville at his rural retreat outside of Perryville.

Captain Cooper, a recipient of the Purple Heart, was critically injured in 2009 when an IED blew up underneath his patrol truck in Afghanistan. He lost his right leg, broke every bone in his left leg, and suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Captain Cooper’s father, Tim, bought property outside of Perryville late last year and approached Tiger Docks about building a special dock on the pond there.

“Matt loves to fish and he loves the peacefulness he feels at the lakeside property,” Tim Cooper said. “The place we bought already had a small dock, but it wasn’t one that worked for Matt in his wheelchair.”

Tim Cooper asked Tiger Docks if they could build a new dock with a specially-inclined ramp to make the dock safely accessible for Matt. ADA docks with extra-wide ramps and safety kick rails are something of a specialty for Tiger Docks, which has recently installed those for the cities of Belleville, Waterloo and Chesterfield, the St. Charles County Parks Department, and a Great Rivers Greenway project.

The team at Tiger Docks felt a special connection to Captain Cooper, who grew up in Lake Saint Louis where Tiger Docks originated. After Tim Cooper committed to the dock design and material specifics, Tiger Docks donated the equipment and installation labor to bring the project to completion. The end product installed was a 16’x16’ ADA floating wood dock with a 6’x16’ wood ramp, both including a kick rail around the full perimeter, with encapsulated float drums and galvanized steel dock hardware.

“We’ve done some special jobs during my time at Tiger Docks, but this project for Captain Matt was the most rewarding experience I’ve ever had,” said Zach Meier, crew leader. “I’m actually glad we had a rain delay. It gave us a great opportunity to get to know Matt and his dad better. They are both amazing guys.”

The Tiger Docks crew met at their O’Fallon work place at 6:00 am last Saturday, drove to the site 20 miles southwest of Perryville and off loaded. Then they had to wait out a storm for three hours before they could begin the construction and installation project. All told, it was a 12-hour day for the company’s six volunteers.

“It was an honor to do this for Captain Matt,” said Nick Davis, Tiger Docks president and participant in the special day. “After all he’s gone through, we felt like this was the least we could do to show our appreciation for Captain Matt’s service and sacrifice.”

FloatBall Selects Tiger Docks for Its U.S. Debut

MIAMI, FL (February 25, 2015) – Rio de Janeiro’s FloatBall company recently selected Tiger Docks to assist with their U.S. debut at Zoo Miami, the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida. FloatBall was previously associated primarily with World Cup events in South Africa and Brazil as sightseeing boats during the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) festivities.

FloatBall’s Giovanni Luigi from Brazil is now bringing FloatBall to U.S. and European cities for ongoing recreational purposes. The four-vehicle fleet of this unique, 12-foot high, 10-person water ride installed at Zoo Miami’s Amazon Lake is the first of many future projects. “We were looking for a premier floating dock system,” said Giovanni Luigi, FloatBall CEO. “After researching several companies in the United States, we decided on Tiger Docks because of their technical expertise and quick understanding of our vision for the project. FloatBall is a startup company in terms of the U.S. market and we needed a reliable business partner to work with there. We were impressed by the high quality of the Tiger Docks product and even more so by the support and care exhibited by their sales team.”

The assembly and installation were performed by FloatBall personnel. In addition to the dock system, Tiger Docks also supplied FloatBall with HydroHoist EnergyMate power stations.

Tiger Docks Completes Project for Great Rivers Greenway

COTTLEVILLE, MO (November 2014) – Tiger Docks recently completed the installation of a premium galvanized steel truss floating dock and bridge system at the Dardenne Greenway on the campus of St. Charles Community College in Cottleville as part of the Great Rivers Greenway District.

The Great Rivers Greenway District’s goal is to develop a metro region-wide system of greenways, parks and trails spanning Missouri and Illinois in an area of 1,216 square miles.

The new section of trail adjacent to St. Charles Community College links two existing sections of the Dardenne Greenway in Cottleville and St. Peters, as well as multiple existing trails in nearby parks, creating nearly five miles of continuous connectivity.

Tiger Docks’ contribution to the project included a 16’x24’ dock with a 6’x30’ galvanized steel bridge featuring ADA handrails, two benches, specially-designed deck railing that makes for easier fishing, and Trex Transcend composite decking. The dock is built on steel truss frames and includes encapsulated flotation.

“St. Charles area residents students and employees now have safe and convenient access to parks, recreation, and a nearby college, thanks to a new 1.5-mile trail in Great Rivers Greenway’s trail system,” according to a statement by the Great Rivers Greenways District. “Bringing parents and kids together outdoors near the water is one of our primary goals and Tiger Docks’ new installation does just that,” continued their spokesperson.

CREVE COEUR, MO (August 22, 2014) – Tiger Docks Waterfront Specialists has expanded their line of manufactured waterfront products to include premium wakeboarding water features in addition to quality boat docks, boat lifts and pump stations.
